Old friends and good memories

We had the pleasure of catching up with some old friends from NZ today, who have known me since I was a baby - one of the most beautiful, hospitable, gracious, fun and strong couples that you are likely to meet. Of course I was too excited about actually seeing them to remember to take my camera, but seeing them, with the battles that they are walking through together with their respective health and so on, reminds me of a piece of prose that we had on our wedding day that said something along the lines of:

Is there anything more beautiful than young love? Yes, the beauty of old love, of lives walked together and gnarled hands holding each other in the strength of love that has battled through the good times and bad and come up victorious.
(Of course, that's not the real words - transcript must be in one of these boxes around here - but you get the meaning.) What a privilege to know and learn from such a lovely couple - married for 50 years next year!
